The Ferrari Stable used the P4 in the 1967 season of the World Sportcar Championship in order to challenge the dominance of the Ford GT40 on the track. The car competed for the Constructors' title which the Porsche 908 also and went on to win. The next year racing rules were changed and the P4 was replaced by the 312P.
